Technical Progress Update
Within the Bio-Uptake project, Centexbel has successfully developed and produced two different PLA woven fabrics, contributing to the advancement of sustainable composite applications.
As part of the work on textile reinforcement solutions, two distinct woven structures were designed and manufactured:
- 2x2 Twill weave
- Warp-effect Satin 5 (shift 3)
These PLA-based fabrics were subsequently delivered to Comfil ApS for the production of bio-based composite insoles.
🔬 Technical highlights:
- Fabric width: 500 mm, produced on a small work-width weaving machine
- Dobby weaving system, with each frame individually driven by a stepper motor
- Negative double rapier system for precise weft insertion
This development represents an important step in demonstrating how bio-based textile reinforcements can be engineered and integrated into composite applications, supporting the transition towards more sustainable material solutions.
