Real-time Process Monitoring with IRIS: Thermal Imaging for Smarter Textile Manufacturing
Today, we spotlight the contribution of IRIS Technology Solutions, whose expertise in advanced monitoring solutions is helping Bio-Uptake push the boundaries of real-time process control and quality assurance.
During the project, a thermal camera prototype developed by IRIS Technology Solutions was tested at Centexbel’s facilities to evaluate the feasibility of using thermal imaging for real-time yarn temperature monitoring during the stretching process.
🔍 What was tested?
Camera positioning & installation:
- Several adjustments were made to identify the most suitable measurement points along the stretching line, ensuring reliable temperature acquisition.
- Temperature monitoring:
The thermal camera successfully captured temperature variations at different stages of the process, highlighting significant changes and rapid cooling once the yarn separates from the rolls.
- Cross-validation:
Measurements from the thermal camera were compared with Centexbel’s thermocouples. The results showed comparable temperature values, confirming the potential of thermal imaging as a non-contact monitoring solution.
This work, carried out within Task 2.4 of the BIO-UPTAKE project, demonstrates how real-time thermal monitoring can improve process understanding, quality control, and overall production efficiency in textile and composite manufacturing.
