Ensuring Safety and Sustainability with the University of Aveiro
Developing bio-based composites is not only about performance and processability, it is also about ensuring their safety throughout their entire life cycle. That’s where the CESAM - Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies plays a crucial role within the BIO-UPTAKE project.
Their work focuses on assessing the potential toxicity of the final products, using testing approaches designed to replicate realistic conditions of use.
🔬 What does this involve?
For the trash can lid for example, tests are being carried out under simulated
indoor and outdoor light exposures, followed by an assessment of the ecotoxicity of leachates on both terrestrial and aquatic organisms
🌱 This comprehensive evaluation helps ensure that Bio-Uptake solutions are not only innovative and circular, but also safe for people and the environment, supporting their future market uptake.
