A Major Milestone: 210 meters of 3R Bio-Based Prepreg Produced!

Today we’re excited to highlight a major achievement made already a few months ago within the BIO-UPTAKE project.
CIDETEC has successfully manufactured 210 linear meters of 3R bio-based prepreg rolls, marking a significant leap forward in the development of sustainable composite materials.
These innovative prepregs were produced by impregnating flax fibers with an advanced 3R bio-based epoxy resin, formulated using DGEVA (Diglycidyl Ether of Vanillyl Alcohol), a renewable building block developed by SPECIFIC POLYMERS.

🌱 Why is this important?
The result is a composite material that:
- Meets high performance and mechanical standards
- Is fully recyclable and reprocessable, aligned with circular economy principles
- Reduces dependency on fossil-based resins
- Maintains reliability and quality throughout processing

The material has been validated by Podcomp AB, our project end-user, confirming its readiness for real-world applications. It will now be used to manufacture a modular bathroom ceiling demonstrator, showcasing how bio-based thermoset composites can perform in demanding industrial environments.
This achievement represents a powerful step toward cleaner, more sustainable manufacturing, exactly the mission at the heart of Bio-Uptake.
